The basic storyline of the music video was about this guy who was really crushing on girl who goes to his school. Throughout the day, he encounters her and other guys trying to impress her also. Then he would go to class and daydream about the girl and himself spending time together. The actual video doesn't match the preproduction Anissa and I worked out. We had to take a lot of the scenes we wanted out and most of the footage we got, wasn't that good. We had to redo a lot of the same shots to get everything as right as it could be.
We didn't have many problems with the props or wardrobe. We did a good job in reminding our actors to bring the same jacket or shirt that they were wearing before. The directing wasn't as big problem either. We were able to talk to the actors about how a shot would play out. The location and shooting were a problem. Many times, sports and weather got in the way. We had to put off shooting because the location wouldn't look the same or the area wasn't available during the time we needed it.
There were problems in the lighting of the shots. We always had to make sure that the light on the actors was the same and natural-looking which was difficult because the weather was on a rollercoaster those few days. There weren't any problems with handling the camera. Most of our camera movement were smooth and fluid.
There were different techniques used in this music video. There was some movement match when Ashton and Gladwin were picking up her fallen binder. There's a couple of uses of eyeline match. We used a shot/reverse shot when Gladwin walks into the school hallway and he sees Ashton talking with two other guys. There are a lot of reaction shots of Gladwin in the video. There was a daydream shot put into the video of Gladwin daydreaming about Ashton and him being together. I slowed down some of the opening shots to make it seem less rushed.
My favorite part about the video was the scene where Gladwin and Ashton were sitting together outside on a blanket. It was pretty funny to set up and shoot. There would be quite a few things I would want to change in my video. I would put in some more of the shots that Anissa and I had planned in our preproduction. I would fix up all of the shots we had gathered up already and touched them up some more.
I feel as though this music video showed how I knew about most of the techniques and concepts. I don't feel as though this project fully showed how well I knew how to use them. But this video showed that I knew and tried to incorporate them. I don't think my music video captured the audience well and that is something that I need to work on. I need to put in some more thought and hard work into something that will grab the audience. Produce something that the audience would like watching over and over again. I need to work on getting everyone together and planning the location suitable for scenes. I need to remember to get all the extras shots that I can in case some don't work when I get to the editing stage.
